Selecting Persuasive Topics

Your upcoming speech is persuasive and it is time to select a persuasive topic.  This Web Unit asks that you:
  1. WATCH the film below (8 min)
  2. Complete the Worksheet & Submit through Canvas
  3. Explore the additional places to find topics and research for your topic
  4. Review the topics to avoid for our class
​The film to the below provides insightful guidance.  It is less than 8 minutes and I encourage you to watch it in its entirety. ​
Please note: this film states that your persuasive speech in worth half of you grade, that it not true.  Your persuasive speech is worth 100 point; while significant it is not half.
DIRECTIONS: Watch this 8-minute video then answer the questions on the worksheet completely.

SUBMIT through Canvas.  You may
  • scan your completed form into a PDF and upload
  • take a photo and upload the jpeg
  • type out questions with answers and upload

TEDTalks use the search filters and look for persuasive presentations that are more than 6 minutes in length.  You are like to find topic you never thought about.


Some topics to AVOID . . .

Abortion, prostitution, anything on marijuana
Death penalty, puppy mills, animal testing, physician assisted end of life, 
Smoking, texting while driving, lowering the drinking age 
​Donating blood, 

A strong caution about anything Health Related; Health related topics don't do that well because typically know we should be doing they doing the healthy things.
